The History of Lord Craven's Grant

The name Craven's Grant is rich in local history and heritage. In 1663, King Charles II granted eight charters of land. One of the eight "lord proprietors" was Lord Craven, who was granted a large parcel of coastal property stretching from North Carolina to Georgia, including this spectacular tract of land on Winyah Bay. Here in the port city of Georgetown, South Carolina, life has long centered around the water. And nowhere is the water more celebrated than here at Craven's Grant, an exclusive gated community on Winyah Bay.

A Glorious Gateway to the Atlantic

Georgetown is located at the merger of five rivers; the Sampit, the Black, the Waccamaw and the Great and Little Pee Dee rivers. Rivers whose rich names evoke the ancient history of the Lowcountry. Together with the Intracoastal Waterway, they form the wide and wonderful Winyah Bay. Here, Winyah Bay is as much a part of Lowcountry life as barbecue and Spanish moss. The water beckons from every window. It calls from the marsh, inviting you to hop in your boat and enjoy another day on the water. Like the Lowcountry itself, Winyah Bay becomes a part of you.

Beauty from any Point of View

The world changes every six hours with the tides on Winyah Bay. How you see the world from your window will change with it. Perhaps you may want to make a visit to one of the many historic plantation museums here in the Lowcountry. The Charleston-style architecture at Craven's Grant is meant to not only capture the spirit of Southern heritage in the Lowcountry, but also to maximize the community's astonishing array of bayfront, lakefront, and nature views. Take a trip to nearby Pawley's Island, or stroll along the river walk here at Craven's Grant. Here at craven's Grant, the Lowcountry offers everything one could ask for.
